Siobhain O’Mahony completed her Master’s in neuropharmacology in the National University of Ireland, Galway, Republic of Ireland and obtainined her PhD from the Department of Psychiatry at University College Cork. 
Her main research areas assess outcomes of adverse events during pregnancy and the first 1,000 days of life, in particular the disruption of the developing gut microbiota and how this can lead to miscommunication within the brain–gut–microbiota axis. Her research group is based in the APC Microbiome Ireland and the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience. She is a highly published scientists and has many successful national and international academic and industry collaborations.
