Boutaina Zemrani
Dr. Boutaina Zemrani is a pediatrician with expertise in pediatric nutrition, bringing over 15 years of clinical experience from university hospitals across Europe, Africa, and Australia.
Since 2021, she has served as medical director and senior scientist at Nestlé in Switzerland, where she leads several clinical trials in the field of pediatric nutrition in collaboration with academic institutions. Dr Zemrani is also a member of the paediatric committee of the Australasian Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (AuSPEN), where she actively engages in research groups focused on micronutrients, parenteral nutrition, and intestinal failure. Additionally, she contributes to the clinical nutrition education through the Life-Long Learning program under the auspices of the European Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ESPEN).
Her areas of interest include artificial nutrition, micronutrients, growth, and improving children’s health and nutrition outcomes through research and education. Dr Zemrani’s research has focused on developing the first enteral formula containing predigested lipids, specifically designed for patients with fat maldigestion, aiming to reduce symptom burden and improve nutritional status and quality of life. She also led the development of recommendations for micronutrients provision in parenteral nutrition in Australia and New Zealand, resulting in the creation of a new trace element solution tailored for children receiving home parenteral nutrition.
In recent years, she has been at the forefront of the first clinical trials investigating the effects of human milk oligosaccharides in preterm infants. These trials aim to explore the potential benefits and safety of these complex carbohydrates in promoting overall health, growth and development of this vulnerable population.
