  • A leading expert in global maternal and child nutrition and health and has authored over 230 research articles in peer-reviewed professional journals, 19 book chapters, and, edited 4 Books, Monographs and Proceedings.
  • Has designed and led large randomized controlled trials (RCT) of nutrient interventions during pregnancy and early childhood on pregnancy outcomes and child growth and development. She has examined the effects of multiple micronutrient (MM) malnutrition during pregnancy, lactation, and early childhood, and conducted one of the first RCTs of the effects of weekly pre-conception MM supplements on maternal and child health outcomes in Vietnam (PRECONCEPT). 
  • Has also evaluated the effects of prenatal omega-3 fatty acids on child health, growth and development through age 11 y in Mexico (POSGRAD) and is a member of the HAPIN trial, a large multi-country trial evaluating the effects of a prenatal cookstove intervention to reduce household air pollution on child health and development.
  • Led and participated in several collaborations with non-governmental organizations and research institutions based in Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and Europe, and has also served on several expert review panels both in the US and globally over the years.
